How to be free…
1) Don’t use images to represent the LORD in worship
2) …because the LORD is the speaking God
3) …and the LORD is the jealous God
4) …and our actions have serious consequences
-“I will walk about in freedom, for I have sought out your precepts.” (Psalms 119:45). In what ways do we fall for the trap that freedom comes from breaking God’s commands? How can we help ourselves and one another to see God’s commands as freeing?
-In what ways are we tempted to pick and choose which parts of God’s revelation we listen to? What is the problem with creating “a Stepford god”?
-What idols do we pursue to give us what only God can provide? What do we most easily spend our money on? What do our thoughts naturally drift towards? What do our most uncontrollable emotions indicate about what is most precious to us?
-What difference should it make to us that our actions have serious consequences for others?
